No one likes a cavity, right? They’re painful, take a while to get filled, and really do a number on the integrity of your oral health.
So what if we told you there’s a really simple way to prevent cavities and avoid that area of dentistry completely?
There is. It’s what Dr. Austin Babcock asks if you’ve done every time you come into Sedona Dental Arts for your annual checkup. Do you floss daily?
Flossing is one of the best – and easiest – things you can do to prevent cavities. Let’s examine why that is.
Cleans where the brush can’t
Brushing your teeth is obviously the first step in cavity prevention; however, simply brushing isn’t enough. Brushing only cleans about 2/3 of your teeth. The other third gets cleaned when you floss. It just makes sense to clean all of your teeth, and not just one, while you’re at it.
Removes plaque and debris
The biggest way floss prevents cavities is by removing plaque from between your teeth and around the gum line. If left there without removal, plaque will harden and turn into tartar. That creates an area with tons of bacteria, which causes cavities and gum disease. Simply flossing once daily is enough to remove that plaque and prevent cavities from forming.
If you don’t currently floss, start today! It’s simple, easy, and only needs doing once a day. If you have any other questions, call our team at 928-282-1514 for more information.
